Collagen Myths Debunked - Setting the Record Straight

Collagen is everywhere right now.  But how much of what you hear is true?

From Vegan Collagen to miracle results and everything in between, there are plenty of collagen claims out there.

So we’re setting the record straight.

In this series, we’ll be breaking down some of the biggest collagen myths for you.  Helping you separate facts from hype.

Whether it be beauty routines or fitness trends, collagen has become one of the hottest topics around.

But with popularity comes confusion.  And a part of this confusion is Vegan Collagen.

Does Vegan Collagen Actually Exist?

The answer might surprise you.  Truth: It doesn’t.

Collagen is a specific protein naturally found in animals. It provides structure and support throughout the body, for skin, joints, bones and connective tissue. As plants do not naturally contain collagen, “vegan collagen” is not technically collagen.

So What Are These Products?

Collagen support is not the same as collagen.

Many products sold as collagen contain plant-based ingredients such as Vitamin C, minerals and other nutrients that contribute to normal collagen formation. Not true collagen.

These ingredients can help support your body’s natural ability to make collagen, but do not provide collagen peptides themselves.

So Why Take Collagen Peptides?

Hydrolysed Collagen peptides are collagen that has been broken down into smaller pieces, making them easier for your body to absorb and digest.  Once absorbed, these peptides provide collagen-derived amino acids and bioactive peptides that help to stimulate fibroblasts to support collagen production.

Your Super Dose

Not everything labelled “collagen’ is actually collagen.  If you want collagen peptides, look for collagen-derived ingredients like hydrolysed marine collagen or hydrolysed bovine collagen.  If you want to support your body’s natural collagen formation, nutrients such as Vitamin C and Zinc can also play an important role.

Understanding what you are taking is the first step towards making smarter choices for your body.
